Welcome to YouLoc-service. Currently YouLoc is in development phase, or to be more specific it's only in prototype phase. We are in need of great ideas and great people to help in achieving them. Location Based Services are currently spreading fast accross the Internet and everyone want's to have their share of it. During that progress everyone tries to make profit out of it. We don't like that, we want our users location to be freely available for everyone and to be able to share it in the format and the way that users like. We don't want YouLoc to just be another Fireeagle or brightkite, we want it to be a platform for everything that it's users have graved for? Does that sound something too large? If so, please participate and make us go slower and not to try to conquer the whole universe at once.

Okay we have a smaller milestone before everything. We want users to be able to upload our location to our service with any GPS-powered system (laptop, Smartphones, Internet tablets, PDA, you name it!). After uploading the location, we want users to be able to share that location/traveled path and use that information in many ways :)

P.S. Oh and if I forgot to mention, we want this all to be free and open source.

Better instructions coming up.. These one will have to do for now.

Prototype is viewable in address proto.youloc.net. And if you want to start using it, please find yourself a client of your choise. YouLoc currently supports most of the clients that allow location updating via HTTP. For example Mobile Trail Explorer for S60 phones, Aspicore GSM-Tracker etc.

When you have picked your client, next step is to define the URL of the in the client software. At this time we recommend you to use http://proto.youloc.net/logger.php?userkey=<UNIQUE_USERKEY> please replace that "<UNIQUE_USERKEY>" with a random userkey, your phonenumber, IMEI etc will be just fine. Some clients send the phone's IMEI by default. Please use only alphabets and numbers without any spaces etc (It is also easier for you to rememer it)

I.e. Mobile Trail Explorer needs to be configured like this: Settings->Web Recording->Tick the box "Upload position to web"->Change upload url to "http://proto.youloc.net/logger.php?userkey=<YOUR_RANDOM_KEY>&lat=@LAT@&lon=@LON@&alt=@ALT@&speed=@SPD@&time=@TIME@&course=@HEA@&hdop=@HDOP@" - after that you can just hit "Start recording" and it should start uploading the location to YouLoc.

After you have uploaded some location data to YouLoc, you need to claim your randomly generated userkey to yourself. Go to this page and fill in the userkey you've picked and username of your choise. After they have been registered, your icon should jump to Prototype's map.
